What you'll need

To complete this Photoshop green screen tutorial, you'll need the following resources:

1. How to remove green screen in Photoshop

Stage 1

We'll start with the chroma key in Photoshop.

Photoshop has several ways to do this. One of my favorites is the Select theme button. However, one tool that works even better is Seleccione > Gama de colores.

Let's look at the configuration:

  • Blur: 40. This may change from one image to another, but it's a good starting point.
  • Preview selection: Matte black. It's just my personal preference.
  • Invert: markup

Step 2

From there we will select part of the green screen with the Pipette tool.

Then press and hold Change and continue to select the entire green background.

If you select too many, you can always press Z-Control to do. And once you're satisfied, press CORRECT.

Step 3

Next, add a layer mask to your subject. The mask will automatically fill in the form of the selection.

Stage 4

Now that we've removed the green screen in Photoshop, it's a good time to drag and drop or activate your new background.

Step 5

The mask looks pretty good, but it's definitely not perfect. Let's double click on the layer mask and go to Select and mask.

Inside Select and hide, I prefer to use a combination of Pen – Contrast, and Offset edge Properties to smooth the irregularities of a mask

Each image will be slightly different, but you can always zoom in and play with the sliders until your edge looks much smoother.

My settings for this image are:

  • Pen: 8.2
  • Contrast: 55%
  • Offset edge: -16%

Note that we are now only looking at the body, not the hair.

Step 6

After Select and hide, You could end up with some leftover fringe edges.

We can knock them out first for now. Control and selecting the layer mask. This will create a selection around the theme.

Then let's go to Seleccione > Editar > Contrato and Contract for 2. If 2 seems too strong, you can also try 1.

and then we leave Seleccionar > Invertir to reverse the selection.

Now we can take a soft and round black. Brush and mask any areas that may have leftover edges of the green screen. You can also mask by hand without the selection: the selection is there as a safety net.

Step 7

Finally, let's go straight back to Select and hide, choose the Refine the edge brush, and beat him Refine hair button at the top Option Toolbar.

If Refine Edge removes too much hair, you can press and hold alternative and reselect the hair with the Refine the edge brush.

You can also add areas that Refine Hair might have missed, but this is how you remove green screen in Photoshop, but we still have to deal with green tint.

2. How to remove a green stripe in photoshop

Stage 1

Once the mask is complete, we can start working to remove the green dye created by the green screen.

First, create and cut a Color saturation Adjustment layer on the subject.

Step 2

Then, from the Mastery drop-down menu, select Green or in some cases Yellow. This is because the green tint of a green screen can lean more towards yellow, especially in skin tones.

This is even more likely if the green screen is more lime green than teal. Try both and see which one best suits your image. For this image, Yellow It ended up being the way to go.

You can test what works best by configuring the Dye in 100 and see which parts of the image are affected.

Use the bottom Colour Slider to further adjust the color selection range.

Use tone saturation for fine greens Use tone saturation for fine greens Use tone saturation for fine greens

Step 3

Once we know the greens are gripped, we can adjust the rest of our sliders.

Each image will vary in settings, but as a general rule I like to decrease the Saturation increase Brightnessthen pair the Dye to skin tone.

My exact setup was:

  • Tint: -60
  • Saturation: -48
  • Lightness: +40

Stage 4

You can end the adjustment layer by masking the areas you don't want.

In this case, the model's shirt has turned muted orange, but I'd like to keep that bright yellow, so I masked it.

3. How to mix an image into a background in Photoshop

Stage 1

These next steps are absolutely optional, but when looking to change green screen backgrounds in Photoshop, keep the new environment in mind.

Since we placed the subject in a much brighter environment, we can add some quick layer adjustments to help it blend in with its new background.

Get started with Imagen > Ajustes > Brillo/Contraste set to Brightness: 11 tod Contrast: -18.

Step 2

And then add a interior brightness layer style set to Screen and a very soft light blue #95c9f9 Colour. Here are my exact settings:

4. How to Add Backlit Hair in Photoshop

Stage 1

Another trick for really shiny environmental exchanges is to add backlit hair. Start with Duplication the theme, bringing the duplicate below the original.

Step 2

Bleach this hair using Imagen > Ajustes > Tono/Saturación with a Brightness of 100.

Create white hair Create white hair Create white hair

Step 3

And then we can unfold and flip the hair horizontally, hiding any excess white and giving the effect of sun-drenched highlights.

5. How to create a color note in Photoshop

Stage 1

Last but not least, adding a splash of color to your image can help even out the tones, making everything look more cohesive.

I created a super fast and vibrant color shade using just two Color Search setting layers. The first is:

  • 3DLUT: 3-band
  • Opacity: 40%

Step 2

and a second Color Search Adjustment layer set to:

  • 3DLUT: Autumn colors
  • Opacity: 20%

It's over!

And this is how green screen is used in Photoshop, also known as chroma key in Photoshop. The last steps are not even necessary. That's how fast it can be to extract an image from a green screen. Color Range will do most of the work for you, then Refine Edge will take care of the rest. Whether you want to add lighting effects from layer styles or even layer modes, it's up to you!
